About AirtelTigo Money

AirtelTigo Money is the mobile payment service born from the AirtelTigo joint venture, formed by the merger of Airtel and Millicom (Tigo) in Ghana.

The company was formed by merging the Ghanaian units of Bharti Airtel and Millicom, a Luxembourg-based company that owned the Tigo brand and has since refocused on Latin America. Both shareholders exited the country and the Ghanaian state took over the whole company in 2021 for a symbolic amount; it has since been marketed under the AT brand. AT continues to operate Ghana’s third mobile network, and the wallet remains open to subscribers inherited from both merged brands.
