What is Tether?

A stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, ideal for shielding value from volatility.

Main uses: protection against volatility, stable transfers, trading.

USDT is the most widely used stablecoin on the continent: it lets users hold a stable dollar value without a foreign bank account, most often on the TRON network for minimal fees.

Launched 2014
Creator Tether Limited, a company linked to the Bitfinex exchange
Mechanism US dollar-pegged stablecoin, no blockchain of its own — issued on several existing networks

Its circulating supply moves freely: Tether Limited issues or retires tokens as dollar deposits and withdrawals happen.

Tether Limited publishes a quarterly report on its reserves, less frequent than Circle's monthly attestation.

Against USDC, USDT remains the most liquid and most widely accepted stablecoin on global exchanges, especially outside the United States. Some platforms subject to the EU MiCA regulation restricted USDT starting in 2024, with no effect on its everyday use outside the European Union.

Which network for USDT?

Tether runs on Multi-chain (TRC-20, ERC-20, BEP-20). USDT exists on several networks: TRC-20 (TRON) is usually the cheapest, BEP-20 (BNB Smart Chain) comes next, and ERC-20 (Ethereum) remains the most expensive. When you receive or send USDT, HIROPAY shows the networks available for that transaction: always choose the one that matches the destination address or wallet — sending on the wrong network is irreversible.
